Emiratisation
Emiratisation refers to the process of increasing the participation and representation of Emirati citizens in the workforce of the United Arab Emirates (UAE). It involves initiatives and programs that prioritize the recruitment, training, and retention of Emiratis in various sectors, including government, private companies, and public institutions. Emiratisation endeavors to empower Emiratis by offering them job opportunities, career development, and advancement, ultimately aiming to reduce unemployment rates among UAE nationals and promote long-term economic stability and growth.
Emiratisation percentage:
The Emiratisation percentage, as stipulated in Ministerial Resolution No. 279 of 2022, requires companies with 50 or more employees to annually recruit 2% of their skilled workforce from UAE nationals, increasing to 10% by 2026. Non-compliant companies will be subject to fines, starting from January 2022, of AED 6000 for each vacant national position, with an annual increase of AED 1000.
Hiring and Termination:
A national employee must undergo certain additional steps during hiring and firing.
Failure to follow the required legal steps when hiring or terminating a UAE national employee can result in severe penalties and even potentially lead to the blockage of your company’s operations.
NAFIS:
NAFIS is a governmental federal program aimed at increasing the competitiveness of Emirati human resources and empowering them to occupy jobs in the United Arab Emirates private sector over the next five years. This project is part of the “Projects of the 50”, which aims to accelerate UAE development.
Pension and Social Security:
Employers must register their national employees with the pension and Social Security department and make monthly contributions. In addition, end-of-service benefits are provided to national employees by the Pension and Social Security Department.
